Winifred Ellen "Winnie" Cook, age 90 of Park Vista, East Moline, formerly of Rock Island, died Monday, December 8, 2008 at The Lodge on Natchez nursing center, Elko, MN.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 13th, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 12 noon until time of services on Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Green Mound Cemetery, Keithsburg, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Winifred was born on November 5, 1918 in Keithsburg, the daughter of Charles W. and Mary E. (Doak) Brown. She married Willard E. Cook on September 14, 1935 in Keithsburg. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2008.
Winnie worked as a nurse's aid for the former Franciscan Hospital in Rock Island, Monmouth Hospital, and the Mercer County Hospital in Aledo. She was a member of Memorial Christian Church, and was active in the Craft and Unity Circles at the church. Along with her husband, Willard, she had belonged to the Knights of Pythias. Winnie enjoyed traveling, playing cards and bingo, music, and caring for others.
Survivors (and spouses) daughter, Marjorie (Van) Lincoln, Jordan, MN; sons, Donald E. (Wendy) Cook, Lynnhaven, FL, David C. (Carol) Cook, Monmouth, IL, and Neil A. (Judy) Cook, Spencer, IA; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; sister, Alene Ellis, Florida; brother, Lee Brown, Arizona; and sister-in-law, Betty Brown, Monmouth, IL.
Her parents, husband Willard E. Cook, a daughter Marion Waunita, sisters Eva Galebreath, Lucille Chandler, and Norma Brown, and brothers Chester and Bernice Brown, preceded her in death.
