Angie Niel Mericle, born June 24, 1928, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012, with her beloved children at her side. She was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles and a 1946 graduate of Lake Charles High School.

She leaves behind eight children whom she cherished deeply: Michael Niel Mericle and wife Sandy Coffey of Durango, CO, Charlotte Mericle Maxcy and husband Bill of Lake Charles, Kathy Mericle Tawes and husband Greg of Panama City Beach, FL, William (B.B.) Mericle of Lake Charles, Bruce James Mericle of Lake Charles, Connie Mericle Schnepf of Waterloo, IL, Robert Lee Mericle and John Martin of Pembroke Pines, FL, and Paul Scott Mericle of Houston; sixteen grandchildren, Kimen Colgan, Burt Ty Mericle, Molly Sappington, Leigh Ann Mericle, Anthony (Tony) Benoit, Jonathan Niel Benoit, Trent Romero, Michael B. Mericle, Aaron Tawes, Curtis Mericle, Daniel Spell, Victoria Schnepf, Jacob Mericle, Megan Mericle and Jaxson Mericle; and ten beautiful great-grandchildren, Justin Mericle, Ella Colgan, Bentley Niel Benoit, Josephine Mericle, Jullien Romero, Charlie Colgan, Madeline Sappington, Luciahana Romero, Luca Benoit and Claire Sappington.

Mrs. Mericle is also survived by her loving brother, Vincent Niel and wife Mary Louise Scalisi Niel of Lake Charles; and numerous nieces and nephews, the Cardone children and the Niel children, whom she loved dearly. They gave her so many fond memories of family.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, her beloved Tina Mericle Spell; her parents, Tony Niel and Sophia Jenaro Niel; step-mother, Lucy Wood Niel; her two brothers, Paul Niel and John A. Niel; her two sisters, Concetta Niel Cardone and Madge Niel Cardone; her dear brothers-in-law, Curtis Cardone, Sr. and John E. Cardone, Sr.; her nephew, Curtis Cardone, Jr.; her sisters-in-law, Sarah Dalovisio Niel and Polly Berry Niel; and the father of her children, William Simon Mericle, Jr.

Mrs. Mericle's service will be held in her beloved St. Margaret Church, where she had the honor of working with many beautiful people, along with the privilege of meeting many young men starting their journey into priesthood, and witnessing the dedicated priests they became. She was a lay minister for the shut-ins. She was always thankful for the opportunity to work with children of special needs at Pearl Watson School. They taught her so much about life and its importance.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Home, with a rosary and scripture reading at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday from 8 until 10:30 a.m. The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Father Bill Miller will officiate. Graveside services will be at Graceland Cemetery.
