Vincent Martin Niel, 89, of Lake Charles, LA, died on Friday, March 11, 2016 in Baton Rouge, LA. Mr. Niel was born September 5, 1926 to Sophie and John Niel in Lake Charles, LA, where he was a lifelong resident. He attended St. Landry and Lake Charles High School, served his country in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of W.B. Williamson American Legion Post 1. Mr. Niel retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board, owned and operated a used furniture business along with managing real estate investments. Mr. Niel is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Louise Niel; daughter, Linda Keene and husband Hollis of Baton Rouge, LA; son, Tony Niel and wife Jeaneen of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Holly Foret, Shannon Landry, Anthony Niel and Josh Niel; and great-grandchildren, Sophie Landry, Nicholas Landry, Jackson Foret, Hayes Foret, Aubri Niel, Vincent Niel and Delilah Niel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Sophie Niel; brothers, John Niel and Paul Niel; and sisters, Concetta Cardone, Madge Cardone, and Angie Mericle. He was very fond of his numerous nieces and nephews, especially Sheila and Sherry Scalisi, Diane Cardone, Paul Mericle, and Greg Niel who along with friends Patty and Dr. Bryan Barootes were so helpful and thoughtful before and during his illness. Mr. Niel will be greatly missed by family and friends. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Jeffery Starkovich will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
