Jay P. Kallas, 75, passed away December 8, 1999 in St. George, Utah from complications associated with Asbestos Poisoning.
He was born January 27, 1924 in the Provo Bench (Orem) Utah to Dionysis (Dan) and Erma Wilkinson Kallas. He was the second of ten children. He married Marjorie Fern Hardman on September 10, 1962 in Evanston, Wyoming.He attended school in Orem, graduated from Lincoln High School, and attended Utah State Agricultural College until he was drafted into the service. He was a member of the LDS Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, during the Battle of the Bulge and the defense to England.
He worked for U.S. Geneva Steel Works for over 30 years. He also served Orem City as an auxiliary Police Man as a lieutenant and captain during the 1960's. He was a farmer and enjoyed his yard and garden. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling. He was a member of the Good Sams Club, Whistle Stops, and the Timp Travlers R. V. Clubs.
He is survived by his wife, Fern of Orem; and six children, Larry (Marya) Thompson, Orem; Addie (Paul) Taggart, North Ogden; Bobbi (Jay) Woffinden, Payson; Lee (Bonnie) Thompson, St. George; Lora (Ray) Jones, Benjamin; and Michael Kallas, Spanish Fork; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Clyde (Shirley), Stanley (Joyce), Dan E. (Deanne), and Allen, all of Orem; June Wright, Springville, Richard, Eagle Rock, CA, Ann (Bill) Cranney, Lindon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Betty Alred, a brother, Bobbi Donald.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 13, 1999, at 11 a.m.., in the Sunset Heights 6th Ward LDS Chapel, 500 South 600 West, Orem. Friends may call Sunday evening, at the Berg Mortuary of Orem, 500 North State Street, from 6-8 p.m., or Monday morning, at the Ward Chapel, one hour prior to services. Interment, Timpanogos Memorial Gardens, Orem. Full military rites will be accorded by the VFW District #4.
