Della Mae was born in Kansas in 1878 to Charles Milton and Jennie Rhoda (Starcher) BURNS. She lost her mother early in life. After remarrying, her father later moved their family into Indian Territory as one of the pioneer families of Payne county.

Della's first marriage was on 14 July 1895 in Payne Co., Oklahoma to Phillip P. RENDALL. Little is known of him or there life together as other records indicated he died in 1898 in Oklahoma. They were the parents of two daughters - Lillian and Philma.

Della is found on the 1900 U. S. Census in Logan Co., Oklahoma married to a Charles STEWARD. They were the parents of one son - Roy. By the 1910 U. S. Census in Logan Co., Oklahoma, Della is living alone, divorced from Charles.

She later married Joseph M. TAGUE. Payne county records have some reference to them as "mother" and "father," although to date the author has yet to learn of any children from their marriage.
