An article in the Stillwater NewsPress, 21 April 1982, p. 1B:

"An article in the Cimarron Family Review describes items of interest in the March, 1894, issue of the Clayton Star. C. M. Burns was a dealer in dry goods and groceries, offering "good bargains at one price." He also kept undertaker's goods on hand and repaired shoes.

Burns' services seem rather varied, with undertaking supplies in stock. When linked to a tombstone in the cemetery, a note of poignancy creeps in. The lettering reads: 'Florence Pearl, dau(ghter), C. M. and E. C. Burns, Sept. 19, 1894, Age 11 D (Days). Saved from earthly taint and sin."

From the obituary of Charles Milton Burns:

"Charles Milton Burns was born Nov. 20th, 1855, in Wisconsin. Died March 4th, 1942 at his home in Guthrie.

He was married to Jennie R. Starcher August 23 1874. She died June 16, 1885. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Della Tague, Guthrie, Mrs. Nellie Vanscoyk, Yale, Okla.

He was married to Enna [sic] Catherine Bicle, Jan. 25th 1887, at Washington, Kan. She preceded him in death Oct. 8th, 1941. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Grace Poteet, Pawnee, Okla., Roy Burns, Guthrie, Okla., two died in infancy.

He has eleven grand children, ninteen great grand children, three great, great grand children.

He joined First Baptist Church of Guthrie Feb. 7, 1907. He was also a member of I.O.O.F. lodge for sixty-five years. He was a kind and loving father.

He has a great grandson a sergeant in General Douglas MacArthur's army."
