Behrents, Paul William.

Paul W. Behrents, born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on January 12, 1923, died August 4, 2007 in Louisville, Colorado. Paul grew up in Three Rivers, Michigan, graduated high school from The Stony Brook School in Long Island, New York, and joined the Army Air Corps. While stationed with the Army Air Corps in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Paul met his future wife Mary Alice Rambo. Paul served as a B-17 Bombardier-Navigator in the 8th Air Force during WWII, flying twelve missions until he was shot down on his thirteenth mission. Paul was a prisoner of war in Stalag Luft I near Barth, Germany, until May 1945 when the camp was liberated.

Paul married Mary Alice on August 20, 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended the University of Tulsa and graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Paul served as a petroleum engineer for several years in Texas. He later became a general building contractor and built homes in Denver, Colorado, and Norman, Oklahoma. After Paul retired from the building business, he and Mary Alice moved to Pagosa Springs, Colorado and later to New Mexico and then back to Colorado.

Paul loved fishing, camping, hiking, singing around the campfire, playing cards, flying his single-engine airplane, and rooting for the Oklahoma Sooners. Most of all, he loved his family. Paul is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Mary Alice of Louisville, Colorado, and his four daughters; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. As one of his granddaughters noted, Paul knew no strangers and always treated people with the utmost respect and kindness. He was treasured for his outgoing, warm nature, his sense of fun, his delightful sense of humor, his love of country, and his love of life.

A memorial service will be held September 8th, in Edmond, Oklahoma, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Donations may be made to the Paul W. Behrents Memorial, c/o Development Office, The Stony Brook School, 1 Chapman Parkway, Stony Brook, NY 11790.
