Madeline was a graduate of Crosby High School, Belfast and was a homemaker and a long time resident of Brewer. Surviving are four children, Helen Bredesen and her husband, Richard of Overland Park, Kansas, Dorothy Giles and her husband, Lewis of Hampton, Ralph Staples and his wife, Elizabeth of Bangor, Paul Staples and his wife, Betty of Bangor; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grand- children; one brother-in-law, Arthur and his wife, Bobbie Staples of Union. She was predeceased by three children, Richard, Robert and Carol Staples; and two sisters-in- law, Mary Grace Staples, and Florence Staples Lincoln. Friends may call 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Kiley-Birmingham Funeral Home, 69 State Street, Brewer, where funeral servives will be held 2 p.m. Friday, with Maj. Glenn Avery, of the Salvation Army, officiating. Spring burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Brewer.

The actual spelling should have been as shown on her birth certificate. But her marriage certificate and her tombstone all spell her name as Madeline.
