William A Calvert, prominent citizen of Abbeville, died of a heart attack at his home in that city last night at 8:30 o'clock. He had been seriously ill for several months but his condition was not considered critical and his death came as a great shock to his relatives and friends.

Mr Calvert was the Chairman of the Abbeville County Highway Commission and for a number of years was in the furniture business and later was head of the Calvert Oil Company. He worked untiringly for the construction of a bridge across the Savannah River on the Calhoun Highway. He was 59 years of age and a native of Abbeville County.

Mr Calvert is survived by daughters: Mrs Arthur Ellis of New Orelans; Mrs Frank Sherard of Deland, FL and Mrs J A Raney and Mrs Marks Hagen of Abbeville; 3 sons, John, Charles and W A Calvert Jr of Abbeville. Mrs Calvert died several years ago.
