Abbeville, Sept 25 - Dr George Eakin Calvert, 72, prominent Abbeville business man, died at a local hospital Sunday Morning following a serious illness of one week. Dr Calvert was a graduate of the Atlanta Dental College and entered into practice in Abbeville. He later closed his office and entered the wholesale grocery business, which he has operated for the past 30 years.
Dr Calvert was a ruling elder in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. He was a son of the late Augustus F Calvert and Susen Nickles Calvert, pioneer families of Abbeville County. His wife is Mrs Lulie Calloway Calvert.
Surviving besides his wife: 3 daughters, Mrs R M Compton of Birmingham, AL; Mrs C C Parler of Hampton and Miss Janet Calvert of Abbeville; 1 brother, A O Calvert of Abbeville; 1 sister, Mrs Sallie Calvert Moore of Ware Shoals.
Interment in Long Cane Cemetery.
