Obituary:

PARIS - Leon Junior Beck, 92, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the Green River Convalescence Center in Green River, Wyoming. Originally from Paris, Idaho, Junior lived with his daughter in Rock Springs, Wyoming, for the past year.

Junior was born October 14, 1917, in Montpelier, Idaho, the eldest son of Leon Anders Beck and Jennie Louise Porter. He grew up in Ovid, where he attended elementary school. He was a graduate of Fielding High School.

He married Ozella Parker on June 14, 1944, in the Logan Temple.

Junior was a farmer/rancher in the Bear Lake area. He took especially good care of his horses and cattle. He kept a small herd of cows until he was 88 years old and then reluctantly sold his herd because he could no longer lift the hay bales.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities throughout his life. His favorite calling was as a member of the stake Sunday school presidency; he enjoyed visiting the different wards and becoming acquainted with the members.

He is survived by two daughters and a son, Claudia Ruff, Rock Springs, Wyoming; Colleen O'Brien, Lincoln, California; and Jerry Beck, Boise, Idaho. Two sisters also survive, Noreen Hansen and Maxine Dustin, both of Garden City, Utah. He has seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ozella, three brothers, Veriel, Sherrill, and Dale, one sister, Phyllis, and two sons-in-law.

Funeral services will be held in the Paris Stake Center on Saturday, December 5, at noon. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the family plot of the Lanark Cemetery. Services and burial will be under the direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier.
