Edythe Hoy Bossert, 88, of rural Beech Creek, PA, died Monday, March 17, 1997, at Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport, PA.

She was born July 18, 1908 in Jacksonville, PA, a daughter of the late George N. and Minnie Swope Hoy. On October 24, 1931, she married W. Max Bossert. He died May 15, 1990.

Edythe was a graduate of Lock haven State College and received additional art credits from the Carnegie-Mellon Institute of Technology. She was a noted artist and her work appears in the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church in Mill Hall, PA., the Bethany Chapel in Laurelton, PA, the Annie Halenbake Ross Library in Lock Haven, PA, William Penn Memorial Museum, Harrisburg, PA, school libraries and other public and private collections in several states.

Her paintings were accepted for exhibitions by the National Academy of Art in New York City, the National Association of Women Artists, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in Harrisburg, Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, Lock Haven University, Lock Haven, PA and many others.

She taught elementary school in Greensburg, PA, and Lock Haven. She was the assistant supervisor of elementary school art in the Lock Haven Area School District. She was an auditor for the Beech Creek Township, Clinton County, PA.

Edythe was a member of the Bald eagle United Presbyterian Church in Mill Hall, where she designed the church bulletin covers, was an elder and a deacon, a leader of the Seniors Members Bible Study and coordinator of the church prayer circle. She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the Ross Library board in Lock haven from 1957 to 1998. The library's exhibition gallery was dedicated to her after she retired from the board.

She was named the first Beta Sigma Phi Woman of the year in Clinton County by Iota Chi Gamma Omega and Xi Epsilon Sigma in 1975. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens, the Friendship Community Library Board in Beech Creek, PA and the Clinton-Lycoming Mental Health/Mental Retardation Advisory Board.

Mrs. Bossert was a charter member and the charter vice president of the Millbrook Playhouse, Mill Hall, PA, charter president and member of the Bald Eagle Council of Republican Women, chairwoman of the Clinton County March of Dimes and board member and president of Crafts Inc. She was also a board member of the American Red Cross.

She was survived by two daughters; two sons; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bethany Ann in 1988 and a son William Max in 1935.

Funeral service was at the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church, Mill Hall, PA, with Reverend Lee McCardle officiating.

Interment was in the Bossert Family Cemetery, on the family farm in Beech Creek, PA.
