He served as a Clinton County, PA, Commissioner from 1948 until 1960. He represented the 76th District of the State House of Representatives from 1961 until 1971. Max was a former board member of the Bald Eagle-Nittany School District. He was Mayor of Mill Hall from 1942 until 1945. Max was vice president of the State Association of County Commissioners from 1958 to 1960.
Mr. Bossert was a 1926 graduate of Lock Haven High School, where he was a member of the championship football team in 1925. He was a graduate of the former Lock Haven State College. He attended Washington-Jefferson College, receiving a Bachelor's of Science degree in 1932. He attended Columbia University in New York, NY, where he received his Master's Degree in 1940.
Max coached football at Morris Township High School, Morrisdale, PA, from 1932 to 1934. He also coached football at Jersey Shore High School, Jersey Shore, PA, from 1934 to 1935. He was head football coach at Lock haven State College from 1939 to 1945 and during that time, he coached several state championship teams. He was a faculty member of the health and Physical Education Department at Lock Haven State College, and was also the head boxing and wrestling coach. He was a member of the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church in Mill Hall.
Max was a Mason, a charter member of Golden k Club of Lock Haven and Mill Hall, a past member of the Mill Hall Kiwanis Club and a member of the West Branch Sports hall of Fame.
Max was born in Bald Eagle Township, Clinton County, PA, a son of the late John and Minnie Holmes Bossert. He married the former Edythe Hoy on October 24, 1931, who survived.
He was also survived by two sons, two daughters, ten grandchildren and a foster granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church with the Revernd Lee McCardle officiating.
Interment was in the Bossert Family Cemetery located on the family farm in Beech Creek Township, Clinton County, PA.

W. Max Bossert (July 9, 1906 – May 15, 1990) was an American football coach and Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He served as the head football coach at the State Teacher's College in Lock Haven—now Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania—from 1940 to 1942 and again in 1945, compiling a record of 14–12–3. Bossert was also the school's head wrestling and boxing coach during that time. He died on May 15, 1990 at the age of 83.
