MARIAN FROST BROADWATER

Illness of Mrs. Marion Frost Broadwater Culminates in Death

Grantsville, Md., Oct. 8 - Through the death of Mrs. Marian Frost Broadwater Grantsville has lost one of its best known and most beloved residents.

She had been in delicate health for a long time. In July she had a fall which resulted in a fractured hip. The illness following the fall terminated in a heart attack which caused her death at 8 o'clock on Sunday morning, October 5.

Marian Frost was born September 7, 1851, at Shade Mills, Md. She was the daughter of the late William and Sarah Neff Frost. The Frosts are one of the oldest families of this section of the country, having emigrated from England
early in the 17th century. They came to Maryland from New England. The grandparents of Mrs. Broadwater, the late Meshech and Catherine Frost, were the founders of Frostburg, Md.

She was married at Shade Mills on May 20, 1880, to James S. Broadwater, who died 25 years ago this month. They began housekeeping in Grantsville and lived here during their entire married life. The Broadwater home has always been noted for its hospitality.

She is survived by four children; Miss Ethel, Grantsville correspondent of the Meyersdale Republican; Miss Viola, teacher in the Grantsville schools; Dr. Melvin F., dentist in the Edward Hine Jr. Hospital, Hines, Ill.; Dr. T. Olin, dentist, of Grantsville, and by one brother, Charles W. Frost, of Shade Mills.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Ladies' Aid Society.

The funeral service was held in the Methodist church on Wednesday morning, Oct. 8, at 10:30 o'clock. The pastor, Rev. A. C. Bell, assisted by Rev. Dr. Archibald Moore, former Superintendent of the Morgantown district, officiated. The pall-bearers were J. U. Stanton, W. E. Stanton, Earl Stanton, Hayward Broadwater, H. C. Edwards and E. B. Durst. Interment was in the family lot in
the Grantsville cemetery.

The large number of sorrowing friends and the beautiful flowers bore testimony to the love and esteem in which she was held.
