Alta G. 'May' (Storm)Baker was born 23 March 1913 in Prosper, Coos County, Oregon. She was the daughter of John Henry and Marinda Elizabeth 'Rinda' (Hodge) Storm.

The family left Oregon within months of Alta being born. John Henry moved his family back to Arkansas. While in Arkansas, Rinda, gave birth to their son, Howard in March 1915. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Pawnee County, Oklahoma and their family increased with the birth of daughter, Mary 'Sis'. Probably due to the health issues of his father, James Milton Storm, John moved his family back to Newton County, Arkansas by the time his son, Guy Joseph, was born in November 1918. James Milton passed away in May 1919 in Newton County, Arkansas. Shortly thereafter, John Henry moved his family back to Oklahoma. They were back in Oklahoma by the time Rinda gave birth to another son, Edward, in 1920. The remaining 3 children born to them were all born in Pawnee County, Oklahoma. Alta 'May' was the 7th child out of 14 children born to John Henry & Marinda Elizabeth Hodge-Storm.

By 1930 US Census Alta appears on the census as living with her parents and 9 siblings and a niece and a nephew. Her Father, John, is a Farmer. They rent their farm.

Alta married Wilbur A Baker around 1931. Alta & Wilbur were blessed with the birth of a daughter, Louise B Baker on May 15, 1932 in Oklahoma.

They appear on the 1940 US Census as living in Maricopa County, Arizona. The census states that in 1935, Wilbur, Alta & Louise lived in Stillwell, Adair County, Oklahoma. Wilbur is a Farmer & they rent their farm. Wilbur is still married to Alta and they now have 2 children - Louise who is 7 & in the first grade and Allan who is 4.
