DAVENPORT - Funeral services and a Mass of Christian burial for Gertrude M. "Gert" Lucas , 92, of Davenport will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home. The family invites you to join them for a rosary service at 4 p.m. to begin the visitation. Mrs. Lucas died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at the Kahl Home for the Aged, Davenport.
Gertrude Mary Angerer was born Sept. 24, 1916, in Wilton Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Florence (Springmeier) Angerer. She was united in marriage to Eldon "Al" Lucas in 1937 in Big Rock, Iowa. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1973.
Gert had worked over 20 years as a secretary in the chancellery's office at St. Vincent Center, retiring in 1998. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, Altar and Rosary. She also was an active volunteer and supporter of the Serra Club and the former Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, "Pink Ladies" to name just a few. She cherished her family, especially the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Sally Lucas , Davenport; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Ida Wyatt, Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Vince Angerer, DeWitt, Warren Angerer, Silvis, and Donald (Dolores) Angerer, Davenport; two sisters-in-law, Lois Angerer, Cedar Rapids and Elna Papich, Albia, Iowa; a brother-in-law, David Lucas , Knoxville, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Ronald, a grandson, Randy, and siblings, Cecilia, Joe, Vivian, Ruth, Jerry and John. May they rest in peace.
