JAMES DEFOY DIES AT 88
Born August 22, 1870. Died August 16,1959, at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 24 days in Clare, Michigan. He was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, to Charles and Martha Defoy and moved to Patsdam, N.Y. at the age of 6 months where he grew to manhood.
Later he came to Clare and worked in the lumber woods and on May the 13, 1917 he was married to Bessie Johnson.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Bessie, 4 sons and 2 daughters. Nathan of Clare, Madonna of Rosebush, Ruby, James Jr. and Charles all. of Clare and William of Flint. One daughter Rosemary preceeded him in death. 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He has one brother Nathan S. living in Massena, N. Y. one sister preceeded him in death.
As a young man he worked on the sheep ranches and in Lumbering mills from N. Y. to the state of Montana. After marriage he worked a year and a half at the Cornwell ranch and moved then to Patsdam N. Y. for 8 years on his fathers farm. He then moved back to Cornwell ranch for 17 years, then moved to 603 Maple St. in Clare for the last 16 years.
