Bessie Defoy passed away at Golden Acres Convalescent Home at St. Louis, Michigan, after a year and a half of ill health.
She was born the daughter of Bryon and Achsa Perkins Johnson, on March 7, 1896 in West Stockholm, New York. As a small child she moved to Clare County with her parents where she grew to adulthood. On May 13, 1917, she was united in marriage to James B. Defoy. To this union seven children were born. They lived in Clare county but a short time then moved to New York for eight years., and moved back to Clare county where they lived on the W. C. Cornwell ranch for 17 years. Nineteen years last June they moved to their home on Maple St. where in August of 1959, Mr. Defoy preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her passing six children, Nathan of Clare, Madonna Prout of Rosebush, Ruby Shafer of Clare, James Jr. and Charles of Clare, and William of Flint, 19 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Seeley Johnson of Clare, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was a member of the Blue Star Mothers and the Clara Rebekah Lodge and was an active member of several organizations. She attended the Colonville church.
Funeral services were held September 5 at 2 p.m. at the Thurston Funeral Home with burial in Cherry Grove cemetery.
