Adam was the son of Jacob Sents (Zentz/Zens) and Elizabeth Sehn. The family came to America in 1837 and initially settled in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Adam's siblings were; Conrad Zintz (1821-1881),
Casper Sents (1823-1900),
Betty (Catharina) Sents (1825- ),
Jacob Sents, Jr. (1827- ),
Mary (Anna Maria) Sents (1830- ),
Franklin/Frank (Franz) Sentz (1835- ),
Caroline Sents (1837- ).

Sometime before 1850 the family relocated to the Nippenose Valley in the Limestone Twp. of Lycoming County. There, Adam married Angeline Lusk. They are believed to have had eleven children, most of whom were born in Penn Township, Huntingdon County, afterwhich the family relocated to Cambria County. Their children were:

William O (1865-1917), Eliza (Abt 1868-),
Thomas J. (Abt 1870-), Ida (Abt 1870-),
George (Abt 1872-), Caroline (Abt 1874-),
