Adam was the son of Jacob Sents (Zentz/Zens) and Elizabeth Sehn. The family came to America in 1837 and initially settled in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Adam's siblings were; Conrad Zintz (1821-1881),

They are believed to have had eleven children, most of whom were born in Penn Township, Huntingdon County, afterwhich the family relocated to Cambria County. Their children were:
