Miss Lavinia Leaverton was born in North Carolina August 28, 1810, and came to this county with her parents when she was a young girl. Her father was Solomon Leaverton. He settled near Leesburg and Aunt Lavinia, as she was commonly known, lived in that neighborhood until the last few years, when she made her home with her niece, Mrs. John Arthur, at New Vienna.
Miss Leaverton was a remarkable woman, her mental faculties remaining unimpaired until the end and her physical strength, being excellent until a few months before her death.
She attended the reunion of the Leaverton families last August and no one enjoyed the day more than she. She delighted to relate stories of the early pioneer days and her reminiscences were entertaining and instructive.
The funeral services will be held at Samantha Friday, conducted by Rev. Mont Milner.
