GROVER BEAMER TO BE BURIED HERE
His Sad Death, as Reported in the City Papers, Has Shocked Woodland
The residents of Woodland were shocked and surprised when they read in the San Francisco papers Tuesday that on Monday Grover Cleveland Beamer, who had been working in the Union Iron Works under the name of E. D. Brown, threw himself from the bridge of the Ventura, which was drydocked at the plant. About noon his fellow workers missed Beamer and a search resulted in finding his body on the wharf, sixty feet below the bridge on which he had been working when last observed.
The body was partly stripped, which gave rise to the belief that Beamer intended throwing himself into the bay. Late companions of the dead man stated to harbor police that he had been acting very morosely for several days and had threatened self-destruction Sunday.
Mrs. Emma Beamer, mother, and Mrs. Dexter Gibbs, sister of the deceased, reside in Woodland. Mrs. Beamer is in Suisun, but expects to return home this evening. The body will arrive on the same train.
Grover Cleveland Beamer was a native of Shasta County. When he was four or five years of age the family removed to Woodland. He lived here until nine or ten years ago. he was well known and left many friends here who will hear with deep regret of his untimely death.
