Oscar William Carlson, 85, of 513 Lombard St., Irwin, died Friday, June 5, 1981 in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 17, 1896, in Irwin, he was a son of the late August and Mathilda Kristofferson Carlson. He was a retired supervisor for the Westinghouse Airbrake in Wilmerding, a World War II army veteran, a life member of the church board, former president of the Irwin Borough Council and served as a council member for many years. He served 25 years on the Selective Service Board of Westmoreland County, Shidle Lodge 601, Irwin, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 77, the Pittsburgh Consistory, was past commander of American Legion Post 359, Irwin, and was a member of LOOM No. 236, Irwin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pansy Luppold Carlson, who died Feb. 24, 1979. Surviving are two children, William of Lakeworth, Fla. and Mrs. Wayne L. (Marian) Johns of Irwin; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two brothers, John and George, both of Jeannette. Friends will be received at the Vincent V. Rodgers Funeral Home, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday. Services will be held in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Monday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. N.E. Nething, his pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Irwin Union Cemetery.
