The Abbeville Press And Banner (Abbeville, South Carolina)· Wed, Apr 26, 1899

Mrs Annie Hemphill Neuffer, wife of Dr G A Neuffer, died April 22, 1899 at 8 o'clock in the morning. (Note: b about 1871 died at age 28)

She had been a great sufferer for several years, but it was not until a few days ago that there were fears of an immediate termination of her illness. She had been confined to her home for some time, and, as she seemed to be growing worse, she was removed from her own home last week to that of her father, General R R Hemphill, and for two days before her death, her physical weakness relieved her of her suffering; the life that had been wavering in the balance, came to an end calmly and peacefully, with no evidence of pain.

She was a pretty woman, talented and vivacious. Her friends were numbered by the score.

Ten years ago, she and Dr G A Neuffer were married (1889). The husband a a son survive.

Mrs Neuffer was reared in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, but after her marriage she joined the Methodist Church with her husband. In the church of which she was a member the funeral services were held.

Dr Neuffer is surgeon of the road and stands well with the Seaboard people. Religious services were concluded at the grave in Melrose Cemetery.

Mrs Neuffer, before her marriage, was local editor of the Medium, and was the first woman in the State to engage actively in the newspaper work. She imparted to the paper something of her own brightness in the crisp and lively emanations of her pen.
