Col James B Graves, who was born in Virginia in 1796, son of Thomas Graves, a Revolutionary soldier. (this from family records) James B. Graves moved from Virginia to Kentucky and to Oregon in 1847.
He married 1. Diane Newton of Kentucky on Dec 24, 1822; she died March 23, 1848 and he married 2. Mrs. Catherine L Bewley, widow of John W Bewley, and daughter of James H Ellis.
James B Graves had a Donation Land Claim located one mile west of Sheridan, Yamhill County, Oregon (Sec 35, page 23, Metsker's Index to Donation Land Claims.) He was a member of the Oregon legislature and died March 24, 1882. (his wife-2nd, died 1882.)
The will of James B Graves is on file in Yamhill County, being recorded in Book "C" of Wills, pages 153-156 and lists the following heirs:
