"The death of Lewis Alphonso Chase, for many years a highly respected resiident of this community, occurred Sunday afternoon at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, where he had been a patient since October, 1931. Death was due to the infirmities of advanced age. Mr. Chase was the last of eight children of the late David H. and Phyllis (Barnum) Chase. He was born April 7, 1851, at the Chase family homestead, in Hubbell Hollow in the town of Middlefield, whence his grandfather, James Chase, came from Connecticut and settled in 1816. There he resided until 1901, when he went to Junction City, Kansas, to visit his brother, Charles, and after remaining there for a time, he established himself in the hide and fur business in Lawton, Oklahoma. In 1905 he was united in marriage with Miss Carrie Kuback at that place ... Surviving are his wife; one niece, Cora Chase Sperry of Cooperstown, and five nephews, Earl C. Chase of Whig Corners, Lee J. Chase of Utica, Charles H. Chase of Old Forge, Dr. Carleton C. Murdock of Ithaca and Clarence E.
