Died 4:15am Tuesday, June 16. 1987, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 65, a native and resident of Baton Rouge. He was judge for the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal. He served as judge for the 19th Judicial Court, Division A, from June 30, 1969, to Sept. 5, 1984. He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran, having served nine years. Private graveside services at Greenoaks Memorial Park at 10:30am Thursday. Survived by wife, Merle Arnold Covington; a daughter, Johnell Covington, Baton Rouge; three sons, Sammy Covington, Pride, John Robert Covington, Baywood, and Michael Jean Covington, Riverside, Calif.; three sisters, Claire Hooper, Ethel, Edith Holden and Alice Messina, both of Baton Rouge; a brother, William Clyde Covington, Denham Springs; and five grandchildren, Courtenay Heather, Jessica Noel, Rhett Samuel, Jason William and Rachel Diane Covington. He was a graduate of LSU Law School, a member of Order of Coif and editor-in-chief of Louisiana Law Review. He was admitted to Louisiana Bar Association on June 22, 1954, and was a member of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and American Bar associations.
