Caroline Cole Geddy Frechette, 65, former president of the Woman's Club of Williamsburg, died Thursday of cancer.

Mrs. Frechette was the youngest person to be elected to that post when she held the office in the 1950s. She was also the only woman to become an associate member of the Pulaski Club, a group founded in 1779.

The native of Williamsburg graduated from Matthew Whaley High School. She attended Hollins College for a year before transferring to the College of William and Mary, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She graduated in 1950 with a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy.

Following college, she remained in Williamsburg for seven years. During that time, she became a member of the Altar Guild of Bruton Parish Church and the Williamsburg Garden Club.

She moved to Richmond in 1957, where she was a member and taught Sunday school at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. She also was a member of the Junior Board of the Virginia Home and the Women's Committee of the Richmond Symphony. She was a patron of the Collegiate Schools and an assistant coach of the Dolpholina Synchronized Swimming Team for a community center.

When Mrs. Frechette returned to Williamsburg in 1976, she joined the staff at William and Mary in the office of university communications. She then worked in the development office. She left William and Mary to work for the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, where she retired as an administrative assistant in 1985.

Mrs. Frechette's husband, Fred, says, "If there was ever such a thing as a Southern lady, she was it."

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Fred L. Frechette; two daughters, Caroline F. Wren, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Martha F. Tack, of London, England; a brother, Vernon M. Geddy Jr., of Williamsburg; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Williamsburg by Rev. Dr. David Tetrault, associate rector of Bruton Parish church. Arrangements by Williamsburg Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial contributions by made to the Williamsburg Community Hospital.
