EX-WILLIAMSBURG MAYOR DIES Vernon Meredith Geddy, Jr., died on Monday, June 27, 2005.

A native and lifelong resident of Williamsburg, he was the son of Vernon Meredith Geddy and Carrie Cole Lane Geddy. He was born on April 12, 1926. He graduated from Mathew Whaley School and from Princeton University in 1949, cum laude in political science. In 1952, he graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law where he was a Decisions Editor of the Virginia Law Review. He belonged to Omicron Delta Kappa, the Order of the Coif and the Raven Society.

From 1944 to 1946, he served in the Army Air Force in the Mariannas and the Philippines.

After graduation from Law School in 1952, he returned to Williamsburg to practice law with his father. He practiced law in Williamsburg for the rest of his life. In 1980, the firm Geddy & Harris became part of the law firm of McGuire, Woods, and Battle. Geddy served as Chairman of its Executive Committee. In 1991, the firm left McGuire, Woods to form Geddy, Harris and Geddy with his son, Vernon M. Geddy, III. The firm is now Geddy, Harris, Franck & Hickman.

He was selected to Williamsburg City Council in 1968 and served as Mayor from 1970 to 1980. He was a Trustee of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation from 1980 until 1995 and a member of the Colonial Williamsburg Hotel Properties Board from 1983 to 1995. From 1972 to 1973, he was President of the Virginia Bar Association. He also served on the boards of The Virginia Historical Society; The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; The Jamestown/Yorktown Educational Trust; WHRO Public TV; the National Center for State Courts; The Salvation Army; Williamsburg Community Hospital; the Greater Williamsburg Community Trust and United Virginia Bankshares. He served as Chairman of the Williamsburg Public Welfare Board and of the Williamsburg Regional Library Association. He was a founding member of the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation. In 2002, the Health Foundation named its Community Leadership "Healthcare Hero" award for him.

He was a lifelong member of Bruton Parish Episcopal Church where he taught Sunday school, served on the vestry, and was a trustee for many years. He was a trustee and President of the Bruton Parish Church Endowment Fund, Inc.

He is survived by his wife, the former Marie Lewis Sibley; a son, Vernon M. Geddy, III of Williamsburg; a daughter, Anne Lewis Geddy Cross of Hanover, VA; and five grandsons, Vernon M. Geddy, IV, William Cole Geddy and John McLaurin Geddy, all of Williamsburg; and Elmo Garnett Cross, III and Thomas Geddy Cross of Hanover, VA.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday afternoon, June 29, 2005, 2: 00, at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church in Williamsburg.
