He was the youngest of eight children. He married Geraldine (Petersen) on June 22, 1941, in Tyler, MN. To this union two daughters were born, Sharon Lee in 1942, and Mary Ann in 1947.
The couple lived on the family farm with his parents until 1948. His parents moved to town and he took over the farm, and ran it until 1959, when he moved his family to Rapid City, SD.
Clarence worked many jobs after moving to Rapid City; the Titan Missle sites, the minute man sites, Saint Martin's Academy, Pete Lein and Sons, and the gasification plant to name a few. In 1978, Clarence and Geraldine moved to Spearfish, and he went to work for Eldon Johnson as a carpenter. He began doing landscaping soon after that, doing as many as 300 gardens per year.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of 70 years; daughters, Sharon Coughlin and Mary (Gary) Goddard, Spearfish; sister Wynema Ehlers, Flandreau, SD; grandchildren, Lorrie Redfield, Sundance,WY, Michelle (Wade) Wilson, Gillette, WY, Randy (Carrie) Coughlin, Prescott, AZ, Colette (Eric) Ek, Battle Ground, WA, Dianna (Troy) Rommen, Spearfish, and Debra Hansen, Gillette; great-grandchildren, Amber and Andrew Redfield, Sundance, Sadie and Callie Wilson, Laramie, WY, Katie and Mollie Wilson, Gillette, Jade Foss, Dickenson, ND, Kiah Crowley, St. Onge, SD, Parker Coughlin, Prescott, Austen Redinger and Alishia Munger, Woodland, WA, Tyler, Brooke, and Spencer Redinger and Adrian Ek, Battle Ground, WA, Kayla, Brianna and Peyton Rommen, Spearfish, Miranda and Matthew Rosencranz, Spearfish; great-great-grandchildren, Aryabella Locke-Redfield, Upton, Rowen Crowley, St. Onge, Renn Redinger and Elliott Munger, Woodland, and Walker and Milo Redinger, Battle Ground.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Harvey Bergman, Elda Anderson, Alma Isles, Mancel Bergman, Ildra Taylor, and Harley Bergman; and grandson-in-law, Wade Redinger.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Pastor Karen Matuska officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels, Spearfish.
