Joseph L. BRANNING was born circa Feb 1869 in NY. He married Ella A. Peddigree, daughter of Morris Peddigree Sr and Mary A. Unknown, circa 1893. J. L. Branning Dies After Being Struck by Car, Both Legs Broken in Accident
Joseph L. Branning, 66, 960 Hood Street, Allison Township, died yesterday morning at 11:30 o'clock at the Lock Haven Hospital, as the result of injuries suffered Saturday night shortly before 10 o'clock when he was struck by a motor car driven by Dean McClintick, North Henderson Street.
Dr. W. J. Shoemaker, county coroner, who with the State Highway Patrol has been investigating the accident, will hold an inquest, the date for which will be set later.
Funeral services for Mr. Brenning (sic) will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence. Burial will be made in Fairview cemetery.
The accident occurred near the Triangle Filling Station, at the eastern entrance to Flemington. Branning started across the road, apparently failing to see the car approaching on the curve, and was struck when he was about midway of the highway. Witnesses stated that the machine was stopped within its own length.
Mr. Branning was rushed to the hospital where he was found to have suffered compound fractures of both bones of the right leg above the ankle, simple fractures of the left leg above the knee, brush burns and bruises about the head, face and hands, a laceration of the face and hands, a laceration of the right elbow, and concussion of the brain.
He was born in New York State but had lived in Centre and Clinton Counties for many years, having been employed as a miner in the Tangascootac district.
Survivors include his wife, four sons and three daughters: Earl M., Robert and Alvin at home; Roland, Beech Creek; Mrs. Alice (sic) McBride, Swissdale; Mrs. Vernon C. Bilby, Newberry; Mrs. Mahlon Hane, this city and 12 grandchildren. He appeared on the census of 1900 in Woodward Twp, Clinton, PA. He appeared on the census of 1920 in 507 Bald Eagle St, Lock Haven, Clinton, PA. He appeared on the census of 1930 in Hood St, Allison Twp, Clinton, PA. Death Cause- was Struck by automobile.
