CITY OF TONAWANDA - Ruth M. (nee Channels) (Scranton) Zelonis, age 95, of the City of Tonawanda and formerly of North Tonawanda, Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Ruth was a 1935 graduate of North Tonawanda High School and was a resident of Tonawanda for the greater part of her life. She was the wife of the late Howard B. Scranton and the late Joseph L. Zelonis; and was the mother of the late Marilyn Karcher and Duane Scranton. Ruth had been employed as a Nurses Aid at Kenmore Mercy Hospital for 10 years, retiring in 1965. She was a member of Payne Avenue Christian Church, Tonawanda Senior Citizens and was an avid bowler for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Rosemary) Scranton of Springville, NY and Keith Scranton of Buffalo; seven grandchildren, Mark (Patty) Karcher, Joanne (Brian) Gagliardi, Lori McConnell, Ronald Scranton, Jr., Todd (Jackie) Scranton, Ronda (Cyle) Anthony, and Brian (Catherine) Scranton and twelve great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Rev. Lloyd Channels.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 PM at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts.) in Tonawanda, where services will be conducted on Thursday at 4:30 PM, following the visitation. A private burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery.
