Lula & Johnie divorced without children shortly thereafter. Johnie Johnson remarried to Addie McCarroll in 1909. (They are living next door to Lula's parents for the 1910 Arkansas census, Clark Co., Alpine. The parents are listed as the Billy Howell household.)

Lula married a second time to William Oscar Denton on Dec. 22, 1907 in Arkadelphia, Clark Co., Arkansas. Her name is shown 4 different ways in various places on the marriage record: "Lula Johnson", "Mrs. Lula Johnson - Howell", "Mrs. Lula Johnson", "Mrs. Lula Howell". His name is shown as "W. C. Denton". The clerk signed the license for Oscar since he could not write.

Lula & Oscar had 1 child, Mary Magdaline Denton, born on January 11, 1909 in Delight, Pike Co., Arkansas. Lula then died on April 28, 1909 just 3 months after the birth of her daughter Mary. Mary was left in the care of her maternal grandparents, William Mack & Nancy Howell. Her father Oscar Denton remarried to Amanda Henson in 1913 and eventually moved to McCurtain Co., Oklahoma.

Mary is listed as the granddaughter of William & Nancy Howell on the 1910 & 1920 census records. They adopted her and raised her as their own child. Mary listed her maiden name as "Mary Magdeline Howell" on her Social Security Application. She showed her grandparents as her parents on this Application.
