J.A. BLASINGAME DIES SUDDENLY AT BIRTHPLACE
Prominent Cattleman Believed Victim Of Heart Attack
Jesse August Blasingame, prominent Fresno cattleman and vineyardist, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at the Blasingame home ranch at Dry Creek*, a short distance from the place he was born 54 years ago. He passed away at the Chinese camp on the ranch, the victim; it is believed, of a heart attack.
While he resided on his vineyard at Lone Star, Mr. Blasingame, a lover of the mountains, made frequent trips to his foothill range. Yesterday he was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Mary Blasingame.
Blasingame, member of an early Fresno county family, was the son of Jesse Augustus Blasingame, who came to California during the gold rush and settled on the Dry Creek ranch, which still bears his name, in 1862. As he prospered he extended his holdings until they reached almost from Friant to Academy.
The elder Blasingame, founder of the ranch, lived in Fresno in a house, part of which still stands, at the corner of Stanislaus and M streets. He and his wife, formerly Mary Jane Ogle, reared a family of seven children, but two of
whom now remain. Among other business properties, Blasingame acquired** the Ogle house on H Street, now the Collins hotel.
Jesse A. Blasingame, whose life expired yesterday, was graduated from the Alameda university academy in 1895, and later he attended business college here.
He later engaged with his brothers in stock raising and supplemented the with vineyard ranching, planting 100 acres in the Centerville district and later improving a large tract of land at Lone Star, which eventually became his
permanent home.
Surviving Blasingame are his widow, the former Mary Jane Sample: a son, Jesse Knox Blasingame; and two brothers, Lee A. and W.O. Blasingame. Brothers and sisters who predeceased him were Albert H. Blasingame, Mrs. Nannie H. Peterson and Mrs. Gertrude Aten.
The body was brought last night to the Mission Undertaking Company, which will announce funeral arrangements later.
