W. Blasingame, Cattle Rancher, Dies Suddenly

William O. Blasingame, 77, a cattle man and member of an early day Fresno County family, died early this morning in his sleep, apparently of a heart attack, in his home on McKinley Avenue near McCall Avenue.

He had been in good health and watched television programs last night until 11 o'clock before retiring.

He was born November 11, 1875, on the old Blasingame home place five miles northwest of Academy, and except for the time when he was in school and briefly when he was a young man, he lived in the county all his life.

He was one of eight sons and daughters of Jesse A. Blasingame who settled in the Academy section in 1862 after coming to California during the gold rush of 1849.

W.O. Blasingame attended old Hopkins Military Academy in Berkeley and the University of California where he was a member of the football and baseball teams, the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and Big C Society.

At one time he coached the football team of the Alameda High School.

Lived in Kutner Colony

A few years after he completed his education he bought a half section of land in the Kutner Colony which has been his home since. For many years he had most of the property in grapes but more recently he had used it as cattle pasture and to grow alfalfa for his beef stock, most of which he ranged in the Academy area and in the Sierra.

He was a director of the old Valley Bank for many years and an officer and director of the California Cattlemen's Association. For several years he served on the California State Board of Forestry.

His first wife was the former Genevieve Marvin of San Francisco. After her death, he married Edna Leonard, who survives him.

Also surviving are a son; Frank Blasingame of San Francisco; two daughters, Mrs. Florence Holt and Mrs. Billie Jane Miles, both of Fresno, and five
grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 PM in the Lisle Funeral Home with Rev. John H. Gregg of the First Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in the Belmont Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be E.C. Weeks, Dr. J.L. Maupin, James A. Miles, E.E. Overton, William Walker and O.J. Woodward.

A member of the pioneer Blasingame family, he was born on the Dry Creek property.
