Minnie Ellen Fowler, 80, a longtime resident of Martinsville, passed from this life on Thursday, March 1st, 2012 at 10:02 a.m. at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

She was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky on July 3, 1931; one of four children born to the late General Lee and Delia Jane (Warren) Acton.

As a young child she and her family moved to Indiana. She spent most of her younger years in Indianapolis and Avon, graduating from George Washington High School in Indianapolis. On December 19, 1953 she married James F. "Tooey" Fowler and soon after they moved to Martinsville. Just nine days short of their 44th anniversary, James preceded her in death on December 10, 1997.

Minnie went to work as a dental assistant during the 1950's for Dr.'s Huckleberry and Elizabeth Graves, both in Indianapolis. In 1964 she and her husband became co-owners of the Shamrock Tavern in Martinsville until 1982.

She was a devoted wife and mother and thoroughly enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings. She was also quite fond of Florida, especially the beaches of Clearwater, where she traveled frequently.

She is survived by her loving family including her son, Dr. William Fowler, dentist, of Martinsville; daughter, Dr. Terri Fowler, veterinarian, of Louisville, KY; step-mother, Katherine Acton of Martinsville; and brother, Winford Acton of Mooresville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Ernest Acton and one sister, Edna Brewer.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, March 4th from 12 Noon – 2:00 p.m. at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. There will be a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with entombment to follow in Nebo Memorial Park Mausoleum in Martinsville.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center, 110 E. Poston Road, Martinsville. A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Nebo Memorial Park Mausoleum in Martinsville.
