Absolum Newingham was born abt. 1821 in Pike Co., OH to Shadrack and Nancy Callison Newenham. He married Mary Pennock Sept. 4, 1842. Absolum and Mary Jane, with their children left via the Oregon Trail to go to Californa. It is thought that Mary's brother John who was married to Malinda Jane Newnham Pennock may have already been in California. Somewhere along the way they joined the CALLISON PARTY. On June 1, 1852, Absolom Newnham died of cholera on the north side of the Platte River about 75 miles from Fort Laramie. It is believed that Mary Jane hired a man to assist the family and they forged ahead, ending up eventually in Sacramento, California.
The children of Absolum and Mary Pennock Newingham are: Mary Jane Newingham Cirby, Nancy Ann Newingham Bailey, James Newingham, Ambrose E. Newingham and Alice Newingham Patton.
