Col. John Catlett was the first English owner of the land that became known later as Ferry Farm, George Washington's boyhood home in Fredericksburg, VA (the location of the "cherry tree" story). Catlett never lived on the property, but was a land speculator.
Col. John Catlett was the great-grandfather of President Madison. Colonel John's son John's daughter Rebecca married Francis Conway. Their daughter, Eleanor Conway, was President Madison's mother.
