PIONEER RANCHER'S DAUGHTER, MRS. JOAN ABNEY, DIES AT 84
Mrs. Joan C. Abney, 84, a Dallas resident for 32 years and the widow of Pierce C. Abney, died Monday in a Dallas hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Alec Northington, pioneer merchant and rancher and one-time member of the Legislature from Lampasas.
Mrs. Abney was reared in Lampasas. She and her husband continued to live there many years after their marriage. He died in Dallas in 1939. She lived at 839 North Oak Cliff Boulevard.
She was a member of the Tyler Street Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Rex. P. Abney of Dallas and Philip C. Abney, an insurance company vice-president in South Orange, N.J.; two brothers, D. K. Northington of Temple and M. C. Northington of Lampasas; a sister, Mrs. H. C. Roberts of Austin; and a niece, Mrs. W. A. Hearon of Dallas.
Funeral services will be at 2 Wednesday at the Geo A. Brewer Funeral Chapel, 3603 Ross, with the Rev. Harrison Baker officiating. Burial will be at Restland Memorial Park.
