Records show James' middle initial as W, his gravestone shows an S. Could it be two different people, or just a typo or misunderstanding?

"This is the right person. His middle name was William--don't know why the initial on stone is S."

NORTONVILLE NEWS, 16 OCTOBER 1953
JAMES W. SEARS
Graveside services were held Saturday at the Nortonville cemetery by the Rev. C. B. Dennison for James W. Sears, 78, a former Atchison resident who died in Wichita Sept. 30. The Sears family moved from St. Joseph to Nortonville in 1903 and went to Atchison in 1910. Mr. Sears was a carpenter there until he moved to Abilene in 1935. He had been making his home in Wichita and died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Mabel Callas. He had been in failing health for six months. Mrs. Callas accompanied the body here for burial. Mr. Sears is survived by two children, Miss Altha Sears and Raymond Sears, both of Wichita; and Mrs. Mollie McCray of Atchison; and two brothers, Roy Sears of Atchison and Charles Sears of Huntington Park, Calif.
