John was a prosperous farmer residing on his father's farm in Meigs County, TN. He served during the Civil War in Capt. William W. Lillard's Company as a private. (William was John's first cousin, being the son of John and Elizabeth Taylor Lillard). Buried near his parents in the Taylor Cemetery. A large monument marks his grave.
CSA Widow's Pension application for Ann Taylor wife of John Blevins Taylor, #W886 for Meigs county, TN. This company arrived Knoxville 3 May 1861. Mustered into service. Became Co I of 1st TN Reg, later arrived VA and on 6 Jun 1861 and became Co I of the 3rd TN Reg.

Son of Peach Taylor and Mary F. Blevins.
Married Ann Hicks Cross 25 Feb 1858 in Meigs co TN.

Father of Isaac Frank Taylor, Elmore Rice Taylor, Susan Wadley Taylor Locke, Olivia (Dolly) Taylor, and Julia Texas or Teresa Taylor Gennoe.
