Army Spec. Chan was assigned to the 411th Engineer Brigade, Army Reserve, New Windsor, New York. Chan was killed when a civilian vehicle near Balad cut off his convoy vehicle. His vehicle swerved, crossed into oncoming traffic and flipped over. Chan was serving as over watch on a Humvee – manning a weapon on the top or rear of the vehicle. His brigade oversaw construction, management and assigning personnel and materials to rebuild roads and buildings for refugee camps. Doron graduated in 2002 from Highland High School in Highland, New York. He always excelled in school and won almost all the awards. He graduated in the top 10 percent of his class, was in the honor society and participated in the track team and band. He would also volunteer for parent teacher conferences, PTA events and environmental cleanups. After graduation, he signed up for the Army and worked for seven months at IBM East Fishkill. Doron had just begun the engineering and architecture programs at SUNY New Paltz when he was called to active duty three months ago – his ultimate goal was to become an engineer. He was hardworking and always had a smile on his face. He loved to play the drums and enjoyed bicycling and jogging. Doron loved the Army and during his last phone call home, he told his family that everything was all right and that they shouldn't worry.
