Peter was the son of William Clancy and Wilhemina (Cairncross) Clancy. He had eight siblings, Margaret (Clancy) Wheat, Catherine, Mary Jane, William, Jessie (Clancy) Reid, Stewart James, Bertha (Clancy) Jensen, and Minnie (Clancy) Wiberg.

Peter married Vera Florence Howard about 1918 in Minnesota. Together they had one son, Garnet Howard Clancy.

He died at the age of 91 years.
