Benoni's stone has year of birth as 1860. However, census records & birth order of siblings support an earlier birth year - probably 1858.

Benoni's death was tragic accident. Beverly Buffo writes: "One night (Nannie and Benoni) had been out quite late and he had a white shirt on. Not thinking, he went out to bring the cows into the barn. The bull attacked and killed him within a few feet of his front door. After his death, Nannie continued to work the farm with the help of her daughters. The farm was still in the family in 1999."
