Arthur Manning, 82, of Greenville, beloved husband of Margaret Esther Creamer Manning, died Friday, February 24, 2012.

Born in Cochran, GA, he was the son of the late Rube S. Manning and Fannie Bell Bozeman.

He retired after 22 years as an Assistant Area Director with the SC Employment Commission.

He served in the US Air Force from April 8, 1948 until November 1, 1970. He retired with 23 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant and made the first air drop on the South Pole on November 26, 1956 while stationed at Donaldson Air Force Base.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Elaine Garner and Melinda Wagner (Donnie); a son, Arthur "Dwayne" Manning (Nancy); one sister, Montine Loyd, of Eastman, GA; one brother, Gerald Manning, of Eastman, GA; four grandsons, David Manning (Ena), Daniel Hamby (Jessica), Derek Hamby (Lauren), Jesse Garner; and four great-grandsons, Christopher and Kirkland Manning , Drew and Dean Hamby.

He was predeceased by five brothers; and three sisters.
