Laura B. Cady, 81, of Battle Creek, died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Maplewood of Marshall. She was born August 12, 1926 in Cochran GA, the daughter of Rube S. and Fannie B. (Bozeman) Manning. She worked at the L&H Shirt factory in Cochran, then at the Post Exchange at Robins Airfield where she met her future husband, Bob. On November 14, 1944 Laura Belle Manning was united in marriage in Wilkinson County, GA to Robert M. Cady. Bob preceded Laura in death on June 10, 1998. The Cady's moved to Battle Creek at the end of Bob's service with the Army Air Corps. After the children were in school, Laura worked at Sullivan's Ice Cream, then at Kellogg's, retiring in 1989 after 29 years of service.
Laura was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club and a life member of Battle Creek Chapter #153 O.E.S. She was a 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church. When her children were young she was active in McKinley School PTA, was a room mother many times, and was active with the Campfire Girls and Cub Scouts. She was a past Mother Advisor and board member for the Battle Creek Assembly #23 International Order of Rainbow Girls. She was a founding member of the Cereal City Doll Club and enjoyed collecting dolls for years. She also put on several doll shows for Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was former member of the Mary-Martha Church Circle. She was an avid and talented seamstress and enjoyed making everything from school clothes to prom dresses; from curtains and drapes to hand stitched quilts for several family members.
