Mary Edith Davis Nichols was the oldest of eight children. She spent most of her childhood in Morgan City, LA. As a young girl, she visited her mother's sister, Rachel Grant Dreese, in Savannah Ga. While there, she met, fell in love with and married her future husband, Fenwick Tattnall Nichols. They lived at various locations in Savannah, at 2313 Whitaker, in the 200 block of W. 40th Street, and at 208 W. 39th St.

She returned with her two children every summer to Morgan City to visit her parents. She was very dainty and dignified in manner; was active in her church, crocheted beautifully, and loved to cook, seasoning her food as her French ancestors had done. She died in her sleep at the home of her daughter at 336 East 50th Street, Savannah, Ga.

Information was provided by Edith Davis Nichols Bainbridge, Elizabeth Bainbridge Pittman, Thomas R. Bainbridge, and Herbert Bartholomew Bainbridge Jr, and documented in the family's book "Related Families of the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts".
