He was the son of the late F. Newton and Mannie Brown Edney, and the husband of Josephine Kilpatrick Edney, who passed away in March of this year. He was born in Buncombe County and spent most of his life in Henderson County. He retired from Standard Tytape Co., where he was a machinist. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church.
He was a loving father and grandfather, who is survived by two daughters, Viva Gravley and her husband, Doug, of Brevard and Norma King and her husband, Leroy, of Hendersonville; seven sisters; three brothers; three grandchildren, Brian, Melanie and Johnny; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Oakdale Cemetery. The Rev. D. Lewis Staton will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Sunday at Oakdale Cemetery.
