Chestley Ray Mitchem of Belle died Monday, Jan. 28, 1991 after a long illness in the St. Mary's Hospital at the age of 89. Chestley was born in Belle on Feb. 10, 1901, a son of the late William and Drusa Crider Mitchem. On May 29, 1923, he was joined in marriage to Mattie Butler and to this union three daughters were born.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie; three daughters, Erma Ridenhour with her husband, Jack, Dot Hafley with her husband, Calvin, and Judy Ridenhour with her husband, Jim, all of Belle; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Chestley is preceded in death by one grandson, Jerry Ridenhour; two sisters, Blanche Crider and Girthalene Cahill; three half-brothers, Russ, Gilbert and Jim Thompson; four half sisters, Lioba O'Neal, Rilda Jett, Lucy and Sarah; one step sister, Ida Heck and two step brothers, Park Mitchem and Scott Mitchem.
Chestley was a lifetime resident of the Belle community and a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Interment in the Countryside Memorial Gardens, Owensville.
