PROVO - William Edward Bown, 69, died Monday at his home of a heart ailment.
He was born December 19, 1878, in Fayette, Sanpete county, a son of William Bown Jr. and Elizabeth Bartholomew Bown. He attended the Fayette schools and later Snow College at Ephraim and Brigham Young University at Provo.
After completing his academic education, he entered the sheep raising business in Wayne county. With his father he developed an extensive ranching project in that area and later did the same type of work in Uintah county.
He married Ann Larson, July 6, 1903 in the Manti Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They lived in Gunnison until moving to Provo in 1919. Mrs. Bown died in 1920. Mr. Bown married Hattie Wright May 29, 1922 in Salt Lake City.
He was an active member of the LDS Church and had been a member of the Provo LDS ward since 1919.
Surviving are his widow, eight sons and daughters, Byron W. Bown, Houston, Tex.; Leland J. Bown, Phoenix, Ariz.; Noel S. Bown, Whittier, Cal.; Dr. Max Duane Bown, Salt Lake City; Lynn R. Bown, Dallas Tex.; Henry M. Bown, Longview, Tex.; Delos E. Bown, Cambridge, Mass.; and Mrs. Vilarr (Olene) Ransom, Preston, Idaho; three stepsons and daughters, Lynn A. Wright, Provo; Mrs. Berne P. (Addie) Broadbent, Pocatello, Idaho; and Mrs. Beth Ann Bown, Phoenix, Ariz.; five brothers and found sisters, John Bown, Orem; Elton Bown, Milo Bown, Leonard Bown, and Mrs. Lillian Bartholomew, Fayette, Leo Bown, Lawnsdale, Cal.; Mrs. Birdie Pritchett, Logan; Mrs. Hazel McKell, New York City; Miss Ella Bown, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Berg mortuary drawing room chapel by Theodore M. Taylor, bishop of the Provo Fourth ward. Friends may call at the Berg mortuary Thursday. Burial will be in Provo City Burial park.
