My Daddy was the 6th child out of 7 born and raised in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. His nickname Cookie was started by his co-workers at Ford Motor Company in Livonia, Michigan where he worked for 31.5 years. My Mama always called him Cook. I don't ever recall hearing her call him by his 1st name. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean war. A Korean Memorial was erected in our city with his name on it. He was very proud to have served our country.

He was involved in the nursing home ministry at West End church. He and other members of the church would go hold a service on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. at one nursing home, go to the worship service, grab some lunch and go to another nursing home to hold a service at 2:00, grab some dinner then go to night service. He did this every Sunday. He would go visit people who were homebound or sick. During the week, if someone in the church was having surgery, he was there for them in the waiting room. If anyone was in the hospital, he would visit them. He also helped feed the homeless and volunteered his time as a cook for the church children's camp every year.

If everyone had a father who was more like mine, there'd be more laughing, joy, and singing. Fewer people would be blue and the whole world would be blessed----just as I am and have been blessed with him. ღ

My Daddy was the glue in my family putting Jesus Christ, our Saviour, first in his life. He loved traveling and fishing. He never met a stranger. Once you met him, it was like you've always known him. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He especially loved to spend time with family and his church family. My Dad always had a big heart and was friendly with everyone.

In April 2008, we had a big surprise 75th birthday party for him. He thought he was going to my niece's baby shower. But the biggest surprise for him was my younger sister, her husband, and his 8 month old 2nd grandson showing up from Michigan. We're so glad we did that for him. Little did we know that would be his last birthday here on earth.

He was preceded in death by my Mother of 44 years, Frances Irene Cook, and son, Charles Melvin Cook.

Before he died, my Daddy had been sick and bleeding internally for a couple of months and he never said anything. He became so sick one day, he had to be taken to the ER. They kept him in the hospital for a week for tests and treatment until the next Friday and sent him home. I woke up the next morning and found that God had called him home. He had his 2nd heart attack in his sleep just like his own Daddy. He always said he wanted to go in his sleep and he wanted to be at home and not no hospital. God granted him his wishes.

I miss him terribly. In his later years, he and I had a very close relationship. Mornings were our time together. If you still have your Mom or Dad, work on having a close relationship with them. Life is too short. Make sure you tell them you love them. Give them a call or visit. You don't want to wait until they're gone and deal with guilt and regret along with grief. Grief is enough to deal with. I told my Daddy I loved him when he was in the hospital. He's in no more pain and he's sleeping until Jesus Christ raises him up.
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.

To Those I Love And Those Who Love Me

While I am gone release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do.
You must not tie yourself to me with tears.
Be happy that we had so many beautiful years. I gave to you my love. You can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have shown. But now it's time I traveled alone.

To grieve for me a while if you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust, It's only a while that we must part, So bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, life goes on, So if you need me, call and I will come, Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near. And if you listen with your heart, You'll hear all my love around you soft and clear, And then when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and say..."Welcome Home!"

**THANK YOU TO ALL WHO LEAVE FLOWERS/TOKENS. I AM SO APPRECIATIVE. GOD BLESS.**

Children: Sharon, Dana, Charles M., Jeffrey, Fran.

Age: 75-76 See below.

**NOTE: My Dad's birth certificate says 1932 and wasn't recorded until 17 months after he was born. He was born at home and my grandparents couldn't agree if he was born in 1932 or 1933 which is the year on all his records except his birth certificate which I found after his death. He was always trying to find a way to claim to be younger. LOL

Cause of death: Myocardial Infarction due to severe anemia.

If roses grow in heaven, Lord,
please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my Daddy's arms
and tell him they're from me.

Tell him, I love him and I miss him,
and when he turns to smile,
place a kiss upon his cheek
and hold him for awhile.

Remembering him is easy,
I do it every day,
but there's an ache within my heart
that will never go away.

If tears could build a stairway
and memories a lane,
I would walk right up to heaven
and bring you home again.
No farewell words were spoken.
No time to say good-bye.
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knows why.
My heart still aches in sadness
and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to lose you,
No one will ever know.
